10 Oct What’s with the Puddle Jumping Girl?
Great shot, isn’t it? If you’re coming to this blog from outside our website, she’s the little girl on our new site that we found after hours of scouring through online images. The shot is by Canadian photographer Cherish Bryck, and sourced through the Vancouver-based stock photo agency site Stocksy.
Since we’re a creative agency, we wanted a large hero photo to represent branding in some way. But what does a little girl and a puddle have to do with that?
Well, take a look at the photo again. What do YOU see? We see determination and defiance: She’s gonna do it and doesn’t care about the outcome. Well maybe she does, but it’s more about making a big splash and having fun. Sounds like branding to us.
But look again, we also see that “something big is about to happen”. Will it be the big splash she’s expecting, or will it make a big mess? Let’s face it, that’s branding too, and no agency truly knows the outcome of their marketing strategy. Sure, it’s a calculated risk, but we’ve jumped in bigger puddles than that.
Oh, and see how she’s caught in mid air, freeze frame? We like that too, but mostly ‘cause it’s just plain cool.
We also chose “Puddles” (yeah, that’s her name) because kids are quite endearing in the marketing and advertising world. And while she’s certainly cute as hell, it’s more than just good looks. Sourcing stock photography (or art directing a photo shoot) is all about strategy – and about tapping into the emotions of our clients audience. And that, is the very heart of branding.
